Media Release: Alliance of Independent Authors Launches Indie Author Lab in association with The London Book Fair, a New In-Person Learning Experience for Indie Authors

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE. Monday, January 12th, 2026 | LONDON, UKThe Alliance of Independent Authors (ALLi) has announced the launch of Indie Author Lab in association with The London Book Fair, a brand-new, in-person learning and mentoring event created specifically for independent authors. Taking place on Wednesday 11 March 2026 at Kensington Town Hall, the event will run alongside London Book Fair week and marks ALLi’s first dedicated live experience of this kind.

Designed for depth, focus, and meaningful connection, Indie Author Lab brings together indie authors for a full day of practical learning, small-group mentoring, and community-led support. The event builds on ALLi’s long-running, annual online Self-Publishing Advice Conference, while offering a more immersive, hands-on format.

A Practical, Author-Centred Format

Indie Author Lab is structured around themed expert tables, each focused on a specific area of self-publishing or a common author challenge, from craft and editing to marketing, distribution, rights, and long-term career sustainability. Attendees will rotate through expert-led table sessions, ensuring focused discussion and tailored guidance.

All participants will receive an interactive workbook on arrival, designed to help them identify and work through their most pressing self-publishing challenge during the day.

The programme also includes expert talks addressing big-picture issues facing indie authors, offering shared insight and strategic perspective alongside the small-group mentoring.

This event is about slowing things down and going deeper,” says Orna Ross, Director of the Alliance of Independent Authors. “Indie Author Lab creates a space where authors can step away from the noise of London Book Fair week and focus fully on their work, their goals, and the next steps in their publishing journey—supported by experts and peers who fully understand the indie path.

Community, Connection, and Action

Indie Author Lab is designed to be practical, creative, and community-led, offering:

  • Small-group mentoring with experienced authors, advisors, and industry experts
  • Hands-on workshops and guided exercises
  • Structured and informal networking with fellow indie authors and ALLi partners
  • A supportive environment focused on clarity, confidence, and informed action

The event will also be recorded, with sessions made available to digital attendees at a later date.

Tickets and Access

Early-bird tickets are now available, with exclusive discounted pricing for ALLi members. Attendance is limited to maintain the quality of the mentoring experience. The event is independently organised by ALLi and is not included with London Book Fair tickets, though a reduced-price LBF ticket option has been made available at checkout.
