Trilogies can be tricky things, Bookaholics. From fear that the author may be unable to maintain the character arc through to the conclusion, to panic that someone we have held dear for 2 whole novels will be killed off at an inopportune moment, we have all read final instalments that have been horribly disappointing. But I am here to tell you categorically that Chosen Lies – the concluding part of Jackie Watson’s Apokeri Bay trilogy – is an absolute triumph, and I would go so far as to declare it the best book of the series. An utterly absorbing and completely transporting story that I have pretty much inhaled, I have loved loved loved this book.
We join Anna and Pip back on the Greek island of Lefkada some years after the previous novel. Their 2 children – Ellie and Evie – are growing up fast and are just as fiesty and fearless as their mum. Life is good and deservedly peaceful after the drama of the years gone before. But then a chance encounter between Evie and Anna’s ex partner Daniel in Paris brings him back to Apokeri Bay for the first time in 20 years, and he is on the warpath. With their lives precariously balanced on a web of carefully kept secrets, will Anna and Pip be able to weather the storm Daniel brings with him? Or is their perfect life about to be destroyed?
This really is a page turner of the highest calibre and I have found myself increasingly carving out time to read this week, desperate to know what would happen next. Watson balances the drama of family dynamics with the danger of external threats so brilliantly, with the stunning backdrop of Lefkada simply amplifying the contrast between perfection and the real jeopardy characters find themselves facing. It was a joy to be back in the company of so many wonderful individuals, even if there were times I wanted to throttle Evie for being so selfish, and the interweaving of a historical story also augmented an already gripping novel. I am truly sad to have now finished the trilogy.
Whilst you could read this as a stand alone book, my advice would be to start at the beginning, so that you too can be swept away on this captivating Greek adventure. I can’t wait to see what Watson writes next and will be eagerly waiting to get my hands on a copy. This is escapism at its very best.

I've enjoyed every visit to Apokeri Bay and, like the others, this one was a real page turner. It's a few years on from the events of book 2, and life is good for Anna. That is until secrets from the past threaten to derail the peace and perhaps even the safety of Anna and her family.
Jackie brings this glorious Greek town to life once more and (crime aside) will make you long to visit for yourself. The plot is exciting and propulsive, not to mention emotionally gripping. Though it could be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading books 1 & 2 to get to know the characters and the backstory. You won't be disappointed.
I am sad to say goodbye to Apokeri Bay but look forward to new work from this fab author.
