Prof. Powers has 300 refereed publications on science and technology from behavioural science to robotic engineering. Several have received best paper awards, either locally or internationally, and in addition Powers has received local and international awards from universities, professional societies, and national and international government bodies.

Powers is best known for his work in Natural Language Learning (as Founder of SIGNLL and CoNLL) as well as his development of the chance-correct evaluation methodology used in AI (notably the Bookmaker Informedness, Markedness and Correlation measures).

Powers has published three non-fiction books (traditionally as David M W Powers) and four award-winning science fiction books (independently as Marti Ward). He is editor-in-chief of Springer-Nature’s Cognitive Science and Technology book series.
